End of the Road

Well, the season got over about 3 weeks ago and I am just getting around to writing the final chapter of this season. It wasn't easy because this was a season of "almost." We had a lot of hurdles that we had to overcome this year. We "almost" have a strong line up 1-9 but with kids not playing, injuries and transfers - that didn't happen. We only had two games this year that we weren't in the game. Every other game, it came down to the last inning, We could have gone 15-2... or 2-15. We were able to pull out half of those games with sheer determination. We played with some of the best teams in the Section from AA to C. We were "almost" there but could never get over that hump. Our last 4 games we played like a team who could win it all. Beating Class A New Hartford and their ace, beating AA Proctor and their ace, beating state ranked Class C Oriskany with a great comeback, and taking Camden (one of the best in Class B) 9 innings before losing it. We were a team on a mission. VVS was our opponent in the first round - their coach told me he did not want to draw us. This is the last "almost" we had. If a flyball goes 5 more feet or a line drive was 5 more feet to the left. We have a 3-0 lead in the first inning and the other teams in a panic. Instead that didnt happen and the momentum quickly shifted and we never got it back. I was proud of all my seniors and what they did for the program after the last 2-4 years. They will be missed. A few of them are continuing baseball in college and one of them will be playing football. A great senior class who set the stage for the player coming up the program. We will need to rebuild our team next year but I think we are going to surprise some people. We have a lot of younger kids playing summer ball - more than we have in years. We will get them stronger throughout the year and come next spring - we will make some noise. Thank you to all the parents who have helped their children become the person they are today. Here are some pictures from our Senior Night Dinner.

We lost a CNY Baseball Legend

I remember it well. I was an Air Force brat trying out for the Freshman baseball team at Rome Free Academy. We were all crammed into a tiny gym at the old Fort Stanwix school. That is when I meet C
